This request is for a young woman that has been working closely with my mom in her classroom . She has been going through a custody battle with her youngest daughters father who lives in Michigan. She has been going through a lot - she lives in transitional housing but manages to provide for both of her two girls. She is a believer and has such a strong faith and trust in God. She left her ex-husband because of abuse and would have to take her youngest daughter to see him every month despite her limited income. She never received child support from him either. Anyway, She went to Michigan earlier this week for court and the hearing was today. The courts decided to take away the baby from her and give her to the father. She called my mom sobbing and in tears. She had no support in the hearing and believes that race had a lot to do with it. She is Jamaican and her ex-husband is white and has access to plenty of resources. Along with having to give her daughter up tomorrow, she has to pay child support and is only allowed to see her every other month. Her ex-husband stated that he wants to hurt her and that she would feel the same pain he felt when she left Michigan, took the girls, and moved to Delaware. She said she left because of the abuse, but the courts did not believe her and no one was there to stand up for her. Therefore, he won and this man is using getting custody of this baby as a way to be horribly cruel. She is desperate for help. Please pray that God will intervene in this situation and that He will send people her way so that she will be able to get her baby back. In the midst of her tears, she told my mom that she still trusts God and she knows that He promised that he would not put on her more than she could bear. To appeal the courts decision, she has to pay $10,000 dollars. She flies back from Michigan tomorrow and will have to pack her baby's things and hand her over. Please pray for her peace and her heart as it is just broken right now...thanks!
